Did you know that there are many benefits to singing? Singing is a natural event and lets face it, wherever we go our voice can go with us. So if you're singing in the car, at bath time or at bed time, there are plenty of opportunities to encourage your little one to sing. I remember my Mum taught us a tune to our prayers and I still sing it now. Singing brings a great deal of benefits to your little one, which include health and developmental.
Singing brings happiness due to the release of endorphins, which bring a postive feeling. There is also an area in the inner ear called the sacculus and this releases even more happy hormones when we listen or are involved in music.
Singing is good for the mental health, the mood and strengthens the immune system. Singing helps your little one to oxygenate the brain and this is because it forcess us to breathe more deeply which means more oxygen into the body. This then travels around the bloodstream and oxygenates the brain.
It doesn't stop there, when we sing to our little ones we are in fact preparing them for communication later in life. It also helps to stregthen their lips and tongues which encourages them to speak with clarity. And there's more it even assists in expanding their vocabllary and allows them to experience rhyme.
Encouraging little ones to sing along is a brilliant way of building up their memory. They learn to recall lyrics and melodies. Toddlers singing with others, helps to build concentration, stamina and follow the pace of everyone else. Action songs are a really good way to help deveop your little ones coordination, gross and fine motor skills and their ability to focus. Songs such as Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes challange most little ones to master it.
